The simple test

Debati is an anonymous forum — and that's a freedom we take seriously. Anonymity isn't a free pass to behave in ways you wouldn't stand behind with your name attached. The focus is on arguments, not identities. That requires contributing in good faith.

A simple question to ask yourself before hitting send:

Would I be comfortable reading this out loud to my children?

If the answer is no, your post probably isn't welcome here.

It's perfectly fine to...

...disagree — even sharply and directly. Good debate requires the willingness to challenge other people's views and hold your own.

...hold an unpopular opinion. Debati is not an echo chamber, and contrarian views are welcome when put forward with respect for the debate.

...skip a thread. If a topic doesn't interest you, there's no reason to participate. Writing in a thread solely to cause trouble, provoke, or derail the conversation is not a right — it's noise, and it will be treated as such.

...speak up. If you experience uncomfortable behaviour from another user, the report button is there for you — use it.

What is not allowed

Harassment and personal attacks. Criticise arguments and views — not people. There's a difference between "that argument doesn't hold up" and attacking the person who made it. Attacking the writer is not debate.

Trolling and deliberate disruption. Participating in discussions with the sole purpose of annoying, provoking, or derailing them is not free speech — it's a breach of community trust and will be treated accordingly.

Spam and advertising. Repetitive posts, meaningless content, or unsolicited promotion are not tolerated.

Illegal content. Anything illegal under applicable law is prohibited — including threats, hate speech targeting groups of people, and sharing private information about others (doxing).

Abusing anonymity. Anonymity is granted in good faith. Using it as a shield for behaviour you wouldn't stand behind publicly is a breach of that trust — and precisely the kind of behaviour that undermines an anonymous forum.

Consequences

Violations are handled from warnings to permanent bans depending on severity. We distinguish between a single bad post and a user who repeatedly acts in bad faith. IP bans are used for serious or repeated violations.

Moderator decisions are final. There is no appeals process — but we aim to be consistent and fair in every case.

Responsibility

Debati provides a platform for free exchange of opinion. The content of posts and threads is the sole responsibility of the users who write them. We do not store more data than necessary to operate and protect the platform, and we do not sell data to third parties.

We reserve the right to remove content and close accounts without notice for violations of these rules.
